19 of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since March of that year.

Victory also means he has achieved 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.

But the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five points to take the lead.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour victory, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, he secured the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
